Welcome to my personal website

I’m a Research Fellow in the Radio and Space Plasma Physics Group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester.  On this website you’ll find some information about my work in space physics.  I study the magnetic fields and auroras (northern lights) of planets in this solar system and beyond.

I was awarded my PhD in 2004, since when I have undertaken Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) posts at the University of Leicester and Boston University, Massachusetts.  I have recently been awarded a Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Advanced Fellowship (AF), which I took up in October 2011 here at Leicester. For more information about my AF research, follow the research link above, and for cool Hubble Space Telescope images of Jupiter and Saturn’s auroras visit the images page. Follow me as @jonny_nichols on twitter.

Oh, and I like beer.  Feel free to buy me one.
