The EU FP6 Marie-Curie programme SPARTAN in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester (UK) is a centre of excellence in training of early stage researchers in the space, planetary and astrophysical sciences. This project provides opportunity to undertake collaborations and training in other European institutions and via training programmes such as the SPARTAN Sprite-Watch experiment. The Sprite-Watch is a campaign of observations of sprites - short-lived electric discharges in the upper atmosphere, above strong thunderstorm systems.
Campaign A
In summer 2007 observations are made for the first time at the IMGW High-mountain Meteorological Observatory at Sniezka, Poland. This campaign (A) is planned for several weeks starting on 9 July 2007.
Campaign B
Campaign B consisted of remote observations made during July and August 2007. System set up and location choice were made by Danish National Space Center. A server at DNSC was used by SPARTAN Fellows to connect to the observation sites and operate the systems.
