RSPP Group Mailing Lists

The Group operates several mailing lists which are used for dissemination of information and the discussion of specialist topics. We have retired the LISTPROCESSOR software and migrated the lists to a new GNU Mailman system. All subscriptions to the original lists have automatically been migrated to the new system and there it is NOT necessary to re-subscribe to the new system.

You must subscribe to a list before you will receive any information. Some lists require you to be subscribed before you can send any messages to that list! You may require the permission of the list owner to subscribe to some lists!

Administrative functions (i.e. subscription and subscription management) in the Mailman system may be carried out either by sending email messages or via the new Web based interface. The Web interface may be accessed at http://mail.ion.le.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/LISTNAME e.g. http://mail.ion.le.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/DARN-USERS

Web based documentation is available here and a pdf document describing the user interface is available here. When reading this documentation you should be aware that the SERVER is ion.le.ac.uk for email and mail.ion.le.ac.uk for web access.

To send messages to a list called LISTNAME (to which you need to be subscribed) post to LISTNAME@ion.le.ac.uk

To administer your subscription either visit http://mail.ion.le.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/LISTNAME or http://mail.ion.le.ac.uk/mailman/options/LISTNAME/<your-email-address> or send email commands LISTNAME@ion.le.ac.uk. Information about the email interface is available in web based documentation but not the pdf version and a brief summary is provided here:

• LISTNAME-join@ion.le.ac.uk - by sending a message to this address, a new member can request subscription to the list. Both the Subject: header and body of such a message are ignored. Note that LISTNAME-subscribe@ion.le.ac.uk is an alias for the -join address.
  
  
• LISTNAME-leave@ion.le.ac.uk - by sending a message to this address, a member can request unsubscription from the list. As with the -join address, the Subject: header and body of the message is ignored. Note that LISTNAME-unsubscribe@ion.le.ac.uk is an alias for the -leave address.
  
  
• LISTNAME-owner@ion.le.ac.uk - This address reaches the list owner and list moderators directly. This is the address you use if you need to contact the person or people in charge.
