Svalbard Ionosonde
The ionosonde is a Canadian Digital Ionosond (CADI) located near Longyerbean, Svalbard. Originally it was sited at the University of Svalbard (UNIS), but had to be removed on the 21st of May 2001 due to building work and was re-sited at the SPEAR radar site where it began operating on the 23rd April 2004.
This is a conventional pulsed system providing 500w of RF power from a solid state
transmitter. The system employs dual delta antennas, one for transmit and the second for
receive, mounted on a 18m mast.
